Safe to Serve:
For political parties

Politics can be rewarding, meaningful and fast-paced work - but it can also place significant pressure on the people who keep political organisations functioning every day.

Change The Chat works with political parties, elected representatives, campaigns and democratic organisations to help strengthen workplace culture, safeguarding, wellbeing and support pathways for staff and volunteers.

We believe healthy political environments are essential to a healthy democracy. If you do to, contact us for a confidential chat.

Looking for independent support as a current or former staff member or volunteer?

Our Approach

We work independently and constructively across the political spectrum.

Our work with you is confidential. We have seen all kinds of wrongdoing in workplaces across the country. It is our role to work with you to build a better future for your people. Our job is not to criticise or advocate for organisations. We are here to support safer, healthier and more sustainable political workplaces through practical, trauma-informed and safeguarding-aware approaches.

We recognise that many parties already have HR, safeguarding and welfare processes in place. However, our experience suggests that people working in politics do not always feel able to access those systems, or may feel they need additional independent support and signposting alongside them.

This is not unique to politics. Change The Chat works across multiple sectors, often alongside existing HR, safeguarding and leadership structures.

We exist to provide independent support pathways, facilitate healthier workplace cultures and help ensure that people working in politics feel safer, better supported and better equipped to thrive.

Facilitated Conversations & Speakeasies

We deliver facilitated off-record discussions and reflective spaces where staff, volunteers and leaders can engage honestly with the realities of working in politics in a structured and professionally supported environment.

Speakeasies can be one-off conversations or scheduled on an ongoing basis or during critical periods such as immediately after election campaigns.

Leadership and
Culture Support

We work with political parties to explore:

  • organisational culture

  • wellbeing challenges

  • retention and burnout

  • safeguarding practices

  • healthy leadership approaches

  • independent support pathways

  • legacy building in local and national parties

Separate to commissioned work, we want to create trusted, non-partisan pathways between political organisations and Change The Chat so that people know where they can turn if they need independent support or advice.

Who we work with

Change The Chat aims to work constructively across the political spectrum and welcomes engagement from political parties, elected representatives, campaigns and democratic organisations across the UK.

We have previously delivered work with organisations across political, civic, education and community settings and we have facilitated conversations with political activists, campaigners and staff across Scotland on workplace culture, wellbeing and safeguarding.

Why this matters

Political workplaces are often high-pressure, emotionally demanding and deeply personal environments. Long hours, blurred boundaries, public scrutiny and intense loyalty cultures can make it difficult for people to speak openly when problems arise.

Creating healthier workplace cultures is not only about responding to harm when it occurs. It's about building political environments where people feel respected, supported and able to contribute sustainably over time.

Get in Touch

If you would like to discuss training, workshops, facilitated conversations or potential collaboration, we would welcome a conversation.

Most aspects of our organisational work are delivered on a commissioned basis. We are happy to discuss different formats, scales of delivery and collaborative approaches depending on the needs and resources of individual organisations.
